Women ~ Health ~ Life: Mindfulness Based Body Centered Life Coaching

I talk about my style of coaching as being a matrix, with the following concepts and pairs layered and angled: art & science, yin & yang, mind & heart, body & soul, broad & deep, eastern & western etc! I add to this blend my life experience and various forms of formal training to create a blend of coaching for the body, mind and soul.

Two wonderfully valuable resources that have informed my practice are listed below:

‘Wise Heart: A Guide to the Universal Teachings of Buddhist Psychology” by Jack Kornfield

And

“Body Centered Coaching: Using the Body as a Resource For Change” by Marlena Field, PCC, CPCC

Enjoy this magnificent day!

Women ~ Life ~ Health: The Beauty in Illness & Life Lessons!

So, I’m at home with the flu, in the middle of summer and right before my annual summer sailing holiday! One might say, that I am humbled! Yes, humbled, especially after some of my recent peppy and ‘conscious’ posts about yoga teacher training and all.

I will spare you the symptoms, however, what I want to share are some personal key life lessons:

1. Do not, under any circumstances become ‘cocky’ about your health!

2. Do not think that you can work 19 days straight, even though you are a life coach and fledging yogini.

3. Do not share water glasses and cutlery with daughters who have the flu!

4. OK, hmmmm, this gives me a chance to get organized …..

Notice the ‘turn around’ here…

5. “Sick” days can be blessings as I have uninterrupted time to catch up on paperwork and planning.

6. Yes, the world, family, work, can survive without me!

7. My body does send messages and listen earlier to fatigue and soreness.

8. “Sick” days give me total ‘white space’ and now I have many interesting and creative ideas spawning.

9. I’ve had a chance to computer connect with friends as I am in bed all day with my laptop.

10. I am forced to slow down, stop, listen to the birds and simply breathe.

11. I feel justified in asking for help.

12. I have time to research further yoga teacher training.

13. I can write many blog postings to tweak while I’m away on the boat.

14. Hey, it’s all perfect! At some level I totally created just what I need today … time to rest, read & write!

Don’t ya just love the ‘self-talk’?

Enjoy your beautfiul day/

Women ~ Health ~ Life: Words of Wisdom

A very wise woman, Pema Chodron is an author whose books have helped and supported many women. In The Wisdom of No Escape: How to Love Yourself and Your World she tells the following …

“There is a story of a woman running away from tigers. She runs and runs and the tigers are getting closer and closer. When she comes to the edge of a cliff, she sees some vines there, so she climbs down and holds on to the vines. Looking down, she sees that there are tigers below her as well. She then notices that a mouse is gnawing away at the vine to which she is clinging. She also sees a beautiful little bunch of strawberries close to her, growing out of a clump of grass. She looks up and she looks down. She looks at the mouse. Then she just takes a strawberry, put it in her mouth, and enjoys it thoroughly. Tigers above, tigers below. This is actually the predicament we are always in, in terms of our birth and death. Each moment is just what it is. It might be the only moment of our life; it might be the only strawberry we’ll ever eat. We could get depressed about it, or we could finally appreciate it and delight in the preciousness of every single moment of our life”

~ Pema Chodron

Enjoy your ‘strawberry’ of a day!

Women | Life | Natural Health: Life Lessons & The Meaning of Wisdom

My life lesson at the moment is about what it really, deeply means to exhibit and embody wisdom!

I know that some folks seem to be born wise, some women develop wisdom with age and very ancient women seem to exude wisdom.

In my life, whether in my family or in my work, my “wisdom learning” currently is about learning to “refrain” and learning to “contain”.

My life pattern has been to be vocal, passionate & opinionated.

In my wisdom, I see this pattern as containing seeds of aggression and lots of ‘ego’.

So, as I am training for elder hood, I am learning to be still, be quiet, simplify!

Enjoy your day beautiful friends …

Women | Health | Life: An Invitation to Holistic Health and Sacredness

Invitation

From the School of Sacred Arts:

“The School of Sacred Arts is a Yoga Alliance registered yoga school offering
Yoga teacher trainings, retreats and workshops throughout the world.”

An Invitation….
If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
a hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…
If you are a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!

(Shel Silverstein, from “Where the Sidewalk ends”)

I personally resonate with this center of sacred studies as one of the founders is Canadian (as am I) and there is a blend of the ancient teachings of yoga, Ayurveda and tantra.  My dream is to attend one of their yoga teacher trainings in Bali!

Enjoy your day and may we all be filled with loving kindness!

Women | Life | Work: Life Coaching Question of the Week

Life Coaching Question of the Week

What do you need this week to feel that you are living a life in balance?

Do you need more sleep?  Or perhaps you need an intellectual challenge?  Are you too busy or not busy enough?  Are you meeting your emotional, spiritual, physical, mental and relational needs?  What does it feel like to you to be living a life in balance?  What about living a life out of balance?  Are you addicted to a life of chaos and adrenalin highs?  Are you in a rut?

As one can see, there can be a lot to ponder!  The success is in the pondering as much as the discovery of any changes you might wish to make.

Enjoy your magnificent week!

Women’s Day: 7 Keys to Bring More Heart & Soul Into Your Life for International Women’s Day

This post is dedicated to all the amazing and empowered women around the world who are joining hands in sisterhood and having a positive impact on our planet and our people!  Deep bows to you!

The research on happiness, health and longevity continues to indicate that those most happy are those who feel that they are having a positive impact on others and/or on the planet.

Let’s use this time around International Women’s Day March 2012 to celebrate you, your passion and purpose!  Use the following questions to set your heart on fire and soothe your soul!  Feel free to share these questions widely and wildly with your soul-sisters.

1.  Gain clarity on those activities, people, issues that you are passionate about supporting.  Use a journal, or vision board, or do some art to tap into your unconscious for messages from your deeper self.

2.  Ask and answer the following … “What does my spiritual self need to feel nourished”?

3. Determine those daily actions & behaviors that make you feel ‘the most you’, those things that make you ‘feel good in your skin’.

4.  Ask and answer ‘ what am I passionate about’?  If you come up with a blank, that’s great too!  Then ask your self ‘how can I unlock my creativity’.  The answers may not come quickly…, give yourself time, over the days, you may get twinges of inspiration and whispers of messages from your soul!

5. Engage in random acts of kindness.

6.  Really get to know a woman from a culture different to you.

7. Every day, start the day with gratitude and by listing all the things that are good and great in your life!

To help with this process, you may wish to use the Topaz Lotus Life Crafter 2012!

May your day be filled with sacred delight and soul-sisterhood!

Women | Life | Wisdom: Unexpected Surprises & Life Lessons

This morning as I was getting dressed, I got hit by a star…literally!

I was pulling clothes out of my closet and a tiny, sparkly blue star fell on me.

It was one of those little stars that are put in gift bags and used as party favors. I guess it got caught on my clothes.

The falling star was a wonderful unexpected surprise and reminded me that life is a mysterious adventure and that my day can be sparkly!

I hope your day is sparkly too!

Women | Health | Life: Holistic Health Tip of the Week

Discover your unique ‘nutritional truth’.

Nutrition tecommendations for women are often based on scientific research conducted on middle aged men leading to a ‘one size fits all’ nutrition prescription.

Ancient traditions such as Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurvedic Medicine acknowledge metabolic or body differences as well as incorporate the concept of ‘food as medicine’.

Many women feel best when they have determined their own ‘nutritional truth’ and eat accordingly. You can find this for yourself by experimenting, one food or beverage at a time, with withdrawing that food for 3-7 days and be very aware of your body symptoms and energy levels. If you feel better without the food, you know it’s one to avoid. You can do this in reverse when trying a new food and thus construct a list of ‘foods that act as medicine’, neutral foods and foods to avoid. This is your unique ‘nutritional truth.’

This process works best when you have had a stable and healthy food intake to start. Also, be very gentle with this process and yourself if you have a history of disordered eating, ‘food addictions’ or yo yo dieting.

Engaging in a regular yoga, tai chi or other body centered program can help you become more attuned to your body messages and mind-body connection which helps with the process.

You can also work with a professional trained in holistic nutrition, such as a Naturopath or a Holistic Nutritionist/Dietitian to discover your nutritional truth.

Dr. Christiane Northrup has an excellent chapter on nutrition & unique needs in her book ‘Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom’. I highly recommend all her books!

You will know that you are successful in discovering your ‘truth’ when you love eating and ‘overflow’ with life force, a feeling of optimal health and energy.L

Women | Life | Health: Words of Wisdom ~ The Guest House by M.J. Rumi

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all
Even if they are a cloud of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each guest has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

~~~
This is one of my favorite poems! I have found that the more I welcome every visitor, the lighter and airier my ‘house’ becomes, there is a freshness and newness with each day and it is easier to greet each visitor with laughter!  This is not to say that it has been easy!  I have found it really hard to ‘welcome’ emotional pain, or perceived wrong doings by someone close to me.  While ithasnotbeen easy, I have found a deepening sense of enrichment coming to my life.
Enjoy your day and as a guest to my blog, lets share a laugh together with this adorable child and camel! This picture I found on facebook, I don’t know who took it, however I would love to acknowledge the photographer.
