Sacred Sunday: Words of Wisdom

A Beautiful Quote:

“You hold in your hand an invitation:

To remember the transforming power of forgiveness
and loving kindness.

To remember that no matter where you are and what you face, within your heart,

peace is possible.”

Daily Cup of Life Coaching & Inspiration: Where Is Your ‘Just Enough’ Place?

Daily Cup of Coaching & Inspiration: Where Is Your ‘Just Enough’ Place?

The concept of ‘just enough’ can be applied to every area of one’s life.  I tend towards being excessive, which, in the past,  has gotten me into trouble with my drinking, food intake, relationships, spending for example.

Practicing YogaI also have done the yo yo of ‘dieting’, ‘budgets’, abstinence, again all the ‘excess of deprivation’.

The concept I have become calm and settled with is the concept of ‘just enough’. Just enough food for me to feel satiated but not stuffed; just enough activity for me to feel energized but not fatigued; just enough sleep for me to feel rested but not groggy and it can go on.

Where does my pattern of ‘excess’ originate? The complexities of my life can be distilled to simply answer, the ‘dichotomy of abandonment and attachment’, leaving me with a deep soul longing, that can only be filled internally through spiritual practice.

As I meditate and practice all eight limbs of a spiritual yoga practice, my ‘just enough place’ is much easier to find. How about yours?

The Simplicity That Comes From a Beautiful Summer Day and One Activity!

Mindfulness, Simplicity and Intention!

You know, I just spend about 20 minutes watering my flowers, however, I did it very mindfully and with intention!

Before doing the watering, I was kind of in a brain fog, after a busy, hot day.

After, I feel refreshed, clear and rejuvenated.

It’s about simplicity and mindfulness today.

In peace,

Zoey

Women ~ Life ~ Health: Yoga & Music Festival in Whistler – Synchronicity!

I’ve mentioned before how my family is my foundation and that I just totally adore my three hippie like daughters.

I guess a life coach should be prepared for this and it was with only a glimmer of a catch of breath that I accepted my daughter’s invitation to share a few days in Whistler with her. She really enjoys her self care, I say with a smile.

There were only 2 days that worked for both of us and after scouting the web for deals we were very excited to book into the Westin for 2 nights.

It was after the fact that I found out that Whistler is hosting “Wanderlust: a Yoga and Music Festival”!

I’ve been a yoga practitioner for over 15 years and I recently took a prental yoga teacher training course through Semperviva Yoga Vancouver.  My plan is to offer prenatal yoga classes as and add on to my life coaching for women in Vancouver.

You’ve gotta’ love the synchronicity as without my conscious intention, we will be up at Whistler during a weekend that combines three of my loves; my family, music and yoga! Thank you Universe.

Women ~ Life ~ Health: Monday Mornings Back To Work

I needed a little help getting going this Monday morning when my alarm went off at 5:15 am and then I thought of all the parents and athletes from the Olympics who have all likely had many, many early mornings!

I thought too of folks single parenting and those who do runs and bike rides and paddles all for cancer research.

So, here I am, with runners on, heading out for a run and then a wonderful full week of work!

I am motivated by others dedication and the great work we are currently doing in our prenatal health coaching and yoga with vulnerable pregnant moms!

Have a fabulous day beautiful wise women!

Women ~ Life ~ Health: Self-Care is not Selfish aka a Living a Life in Balance

In my last blog post, I listed 7 key life coaching tips or words of wisdom,  for help in obtaining and living a ‘life in balance’ for women.

Tip # 1 is – Put yourself at the top of the list of priorities!

Many women I work with say, “Hey, I couldn’t do this, that would be selfish.  What about my kids?  What about my work? My family?”.

The intention with this ‘life coaching tip’ isn’t that you forget about your caring and your relationships.  Rather, it is taking a slightly different look at life and life beliefs.

In our current culture, we are still feeling the influence of ‘agricultural society values’ from yesteryear, where physical strength and pregnancy/birthing were two key factors in identifying roles.  Add in old time Christian teaching that ‘the man is the head of the household’ and the end result is that without personal reflection and inquiry, many women fall into a ‘victim’ role in the family and community, without even knowing it.

Self care is really about knowing yourself well.  Knowing what your emotional and physical needs are, what your values are, when you feel taken advantage of, when you feel overwhelmed, when you feel fully nourished, balanced and fulfilled.

Here’s an example…. Jane is a working mom, trying to balance making lunches, driving to school and soccer practice, work, groceries, spending time with her guy, seeing her parents … you get the picture!  She’s in survival mode, always on the brink of overwhelm.  Every 6 to 8 weeks though, she  gets sick with a cold type illness and needs to ‘crash’ for a few days.  Though she feels guilty for missing work, she kind of relishes the ‘sick days’ as she gets cared for with things like ‘hot tea in bed’ and can stay home in bed and read all day, while her hubby drives kids to school and makes meals.

What’s the pattern here?  It’s push push push …. crash; push, push, push …crash!  It’s speaks to her relationship with her husband and role allocation.  It speaks to her family of origin (I’ll bet this is how her mom did life), it speaks to what she is modeling for her kids (you only get to read in bed all day if you are sick).

With good self care, how could Jane’s pattern be different?  If she understood her socio-cultural conditioning, her deep emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual needs; she would have a solid foundation to clearly ask for what she needs from those in relationship with her.  For example, she could re-negotiate role responsibility with her husband, she could set up a car pool for driving to soccer etc.  Also, Jane realized that she had completed stopped her yoga, which she had previously really enjoyed.  Jane joined a yoga studio and also booked in a series of therapeutic massages.  Although the massage therapy was totally covered through Jane’s extended medical plan, she had been too busy to even explore her benefits!

By being clear on her own needs and ensuring these needs are met, Jane is giving her self great self care and therefore feels happier and more in balance.  Jane realized that she had been only doing things for herself once all the other ‘to dos’ were completed. Now she is at the top of the list and can care for others from a solid inner balanced core of emotional and spiritual strength!

Give it a try my beautiful friends!

Women ~ Life ~ Health: 7 Key Coaching Tips for a Life in Balance

Inrageous/Outrageous Self-Care “Enchantments” aka Healthy Life Coaching Tips for Wise Women

 Coaching Tips:

  1. Put yourself at the top of the priority list.
  2. Daily, check in and ask yourself, “What message is my body giving me?  What activities/food/beverages/exercise does my body need more of?  What does my body need less of?”  Listen to and act on the messages.
  3. Develop your own self-care routine.  Ask yourself, what do I need to do for myself on a daily, weekly, monthly, bi-annual and annual basis to really take care of myself.
  4. Plan a “retreat day” or weekend and craft our ideal self-nourishing time.
  5. Make a list of all the areas in your life that are energy drains and start eliminating the energy leaks.
  6. Decide which people in your life energize you and which people drain you and spend most of your time with the “energizers”!
  7. Spend time every day in solitude, doing nothing, no reading, no music.  Sit and appreciate your life and acknowledge yourself for all the great parts of you!  You are a positively outrageous wise woman!

“In solitude we give passionate attention to our lives, to our memories, to the details around us.”

–       Virginia Woolf

In your process of developing your self care routine, it may also be helpful to ask your self the following questions:

  1. What is my main focus for the season?  Is there a theme/picture/song which typifies this focus?
  2. What do I need to release and let go of?
  3. How can I simplify my life?
  4. Do I feel blocked in any area of my life?
  5. Are my priorites in order?
  6. Do I live life by my values.
  7. Is my life reactive or proactive?
  8. How are my primary relationships?
  9. How is my physical health?
  10. In what areas does my life flow effortlessly?

Take time for personal inquiry and self-reflection.  It helps to set aside a specific time each day to do this and to write down your answers,  Many women like to have a special and beautiful journal your answers.  If you feel you would benefit from support with this process, consider working with a life coach who will act as your cheerleader and partner in your personal development process.

Women ~ Health ~ Life: Yoga in the Earthwise Garden with Shanti Yoga

Yoga in The Garden aka Life Coaching Tip: Do Yoga Friday Afternoons to Release The Tensions of the Week!

My local yoga studio, Shanti Yoga offered a wonderful yoga class last evening as a fundraiser for the Earthwise Garden and Organic Farm in Tsawwassen. I decided to do it as part of my giving back to the community and as part of my self -care to keep my work life in balance.

We all brought our own mats and were kind of spontaneously spaced around Chantal, our instructor.

Earthwise is a very interesting and special place. The following is taken from the Earthwise Website (www.earthwise.ca)

“Earthwise Society is a catalyst for the creation of a sustainable community through empowering individuals to take responsibility for social, economic and environmental well-being.”

The Earthwise Garden is a community program that teaches about sustainability, horticulture, and community development through gardening, farming and recycling. It is based in Boundary Bay, near Centennial Beach, in the community of Tsawwassen.

Not often does one have the opportunity to do yoga and meditation and just melt into the grass and release all of the week’s worries, energy and cares into the ground, surrounded by like minded people, bunnies, birds and beautiful flowers. It was truly magical!

Thanks Shanti Yoga, Chantal and Earthwise!

Shanti Yoga is also doing two groovy yoga retreats: in November on Galiano Island and in April in Bali! You can get more info by checking out their website at www.shantiyogabc.com
