When Your Knees Hit The Floor: For Real

I posted the following quote on FB the other day, never thinking I would literally go through it.

Yup, it happened.

“Something very beautiful happens to people when their world has fallen apart:

a humility, a nobility, a higher intelligence emerges at just the point when our knees hit the floor.”

~ Marianne Williamson

So, I’m out for my walk yesterday, still processing all the recent health diagnosis that are too frightfully boring and ‘chronic’  and ‘rare” and ‘serious’ feeling to go in to and walking daily is what I love but also part of my ‘healthy living plan” (Oh God, Ive become one of those older people) and thinking about which car was in the driveway while looking ahead at said driveway and not on the ground and I turned an ankle on a stone perfectly round like a squash ball and down I went, on my knees and arm and wrist and shoulder and holy  F*%K, it hurt like the be jeesus. Luckily I carry my iPhone with me, so I can measure my peak heart rate so I called middle daughter to help and of course she did (daughter number one got in a comment about a walker before I told her where to put her that nonsense) and one of them had a comment about me not wearing my glasses.

This quote now makes so much more sense, Marianne was out for a walk without her glasses and tripped and fell!

All joking aside, it is true; as I lay there in considerable physical and emotional pain, of being ill, of getting older, of being in a failing marriage, of being one of those people I said I would never become (how did I think I could avoid health issues?), something in me let go, released, shook free and I don’t know that I feel noble, however, my knees certainly hit the floor, in this case pavement, I do feel humble and like my world has fallen apart and I guess I can see a glimmer of beauty and a little bubble of a giggle as I listen to my daughter with the dry sardonic wit describe the event to her sisters (‘yeh, I had to help her up, she was a mess, she was wailing like a newborn baby’, which we will have soon in the family) and in all of this perhaps the beauty is that of authentic raw vulnerability. I’m just like everybody else, I feel, I hurt, I need help and in that I feel compassion, I feel universal pain, I feel universal hurt, I feel universal compassion. We are all the same and there’s the beauty.

Daily Cup of Life Coaching & Inspiration: Where Is Your ‘Just Enough’ Place?

Daily Cup of Coaching & Inspiration: Where Is Your ‘Just Enough’ Place?

The concept of ‘just enough’ can be applied to every area of one’s life.  I tend towards being excessive, which, in the past,  has gotten me into trouble with my drinking, food intake, relationships, spending for example.

Practicing YogaI also have done the yo yo of ‘dieting’, ‘budgets’, abstinence, again all the ‘excess of deprivation’.

The concept I have become calm and settled with is the concept of ‘just enough’. Just enough food for me to feel satiated but not stuffed; just enough activity for me to feel energized but not fatigued; just enough sleep for me to feel rested but not groggy and it can go on.

Where does my pattern of ‘excess’ originate? The complexities of my life can be distilled to simply answer, the ‘dichotomy of abandonment and attachment’, leaving me with a deep soul longing, that can only be filled internally through spiritual practice.

As I meditate and practice all eight limbs of a spiritual yoga practice, my ‘just enough place’ is much easier to find. How about yours?

peace,

zoey

Women ~ Health ~ Wisdom: Holistic Health Tip of the Day

Holistic Health Tip of the Day

Tip:  develop  your awareness of your mind body connection through your breath and through movement.  Taking your awareness inside and listening to your body’s messages allows you to deepen your sense of self and your health.

The Flip: take your focus off ‘diets’, exercise programs and self -improvement programs.

Let your inner wisdom  be your guide.

Women ~ Health ~ Life: Daily Affirmations and Intentions

As a life coach I remind the women I work with that starting the day with written affirmations and an intention for the day, is a beautiful way to wake up and welcome your morning!

This morning after my very short (ie 7 minute) yoga practice, I did 3 minutes of gentle breath focused meditation and then wrote my affirmations for the day:

I am wise, I am strong, I am vibrant, I am supported, I am open to possibilities, I listen and respond to the messages of my body, mind, heart, and spirit, I am flexible and fit, I am healthy in mind, body, spirit and emotions, I am the creative director of my life.

I used the traditional loving kindness meditation for my intention for the day for self and others.  I do this meditation first for me and then I substitute the work ‘I” for “all” and it ends up like this:

May all be filled with loving kindness.

May all be well

May all be peaceful and at ease

May all be well

Happy day to you!

The Simplicity That Comes From a Beautiful Summer Day and One Activity!

Mindfulness, Simplicity and Intention!

You know, I just spend about 20 minutes watering my flowers, however, I did it very mindfully and with intention!

Before doing the watering, I was kind of in a brain fog, after a busy, hot day.

After, I feel refreshed, clear and rejuvenated.

It’s about simplicity and mindfulness today.

In peace,

Inspirational Quote by a Very Wise Woman

“I love to see a young girl ((  ‘or woman’ Zoey’s words )) go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.”

– Maya Angelou

Let’s grab those lapels lovely friends!

Women ~ Life ~ Health: Yoga & Music Festival in Whistler – Synchronicity!

I’ve mentioned before how my family is my foundation and that I just totally adore my three hippie like daughters.

I guess a life coach should be prepared for this and it was with only a glimmer of a catch of breath that I accepted my daughter’s invitation to share a few days in Whistler with her. She really enjoys her self care, I say with a smile.

There were only 2 days that worked for both of us and after scouting the web for deals we were very excited to book into the Westin for 2 nights.

It was after the fact that I found out that Whistler is hosting “Wanderlust: a Yoga and Music Festival”!

I’ve been a yoga practitioner for over 15 years and I recently took a prental yoga teacher training course through Semperviva Yoga Vancouver.  My plan is to offer prenatal yoga classes as and add on to my life coaching for women in Vancouver.

You’ve gotta’ love the synchronicity as without my conscious intention, we will be up at Whistler during a weekend that combines three of my loves; my family, music and yoga! Thank you Universe.

Women ~ Life ~ Health: Monday Mornings Back To Work

I needed a little help getting going this Monday morning when my alarm went off at 5:15 am and then I thought of all the parents and athletes from the Olympics who have all likely had many, many early mornings!

I thought too of folks single parenting and those who do runs and bike rides and paddles all for cancer research.

So, here I am, with runners on, heading out for a run and then a wonderful full week of work!

I am motivated by others dedication and the great work we are currently doing in our prenatal health coaching and yoga with vulnerable pregnant moms!

Have a fabulous day beautiful wise women!
